PLEASE log scavenged/decomposed/damaged birds as follows:

  • If you collect any part of scavenged, decomposed or otherwise damaged bird, enter tag number and mark status as “Scavenged/damaged (collected)”.
  • If you do not collect scavenged, decomposed or otherwise damaged bird, put an “x” in “Safe Wings #” and mark status as “Scavenged/damaged (not collected)”.
  • If you do not collect bird for any other reason (e.g. out of reach), put an “x” in “Safe Wings #” and mark status as “Dead (not collected)”.

Consistent logging allows us to analyze data more accurately and to track specimens for donation or disposal.

Do not try to tag hummingbirds! Just place the tag on the info card in the bag.
If you are unsure of the area where the bird was found, please consult this map.
Please check all birds for bands. If you find a banded bird, please follow these instructions.
We are currently recommending against the use of the FLAP Mapper website due to issues related to control of the data.
