Position Title: Ottawa Bird Strategy Coordinator (1-2 days per week, Volunteer position)
Organization Description: Safe Wings Ottawa is an initiative of the Ottawa Field-Naturalists’ Club to reduce bird mortality from window collisions through rescue, research and education. Our mission is to learn more about the extent of the problem in Ottawa, to raise awareness about the causes of window strikes, and to encourage solutions. We are run entirely by a team of dedicated volunteers who are passionate about protecting urban birds.
Job Description: The Coordinator will lead the creation of an accessible and reader friendly bird strategy document to promote bird appreciation and conservation in the City of Ottawa. The strategy will recommend best practices for addressing threats to birds and ways of integrating bird friendly design into the city, serving as a reference for local officials, policy makers, developers and Ottawa residents alike. This project is inspired by efforts in other North American cities, such as Vancouver, which have already taken action to promote a bird friendly urban environment.
